Hunger

Trying to pick cereal

By Kristie Urich, World Vision ACT:S National Team
When I returned from serving two years in the Peace Corps in West Africa, I went to the grocery store to buy some cereal. After literally an hour of poring through the rows of boxes, trying to choose one, I was overwhelmed. We have such abundance in the U.S.—especially compared to the devastating lack that many face around the world. I started to feel disgusted, ashamed, and guilty for the ways we can hoard and waste our abundance.

G20: Summit alone won't feed the hungry
[World Vision Press Release] Pittsburgh, September 22, 2009—As world leaders gather at the United Nations and G20 meetings this week, the future of the $20 billion food security initiative first proposed at July’s G8 summit remains uncertain, say aid policy experts at Christian humanitarian agency World Vision.
As G20 countries meet, is global hunger a priority?
By Kelli Day, World Vision "I think the happiest children in the world are those who know no hunger," says Laura Ndlovu, 10. She can still feel the lingering hunger pangs that would wrench her belly on the nights when she and her siblings went to sleep with empty stomachs. Grandmother Regina — who cares for Laura and 12 other children — had nothing to give them.
